Scary Thought: Hillary as Secretary of State
The idea is being talked about in political circles everywhere, and the Clinton political legacy of moderate foreign policy is being held up as a shining reason why Hillary Clinton should step in as President-Elect Obama’s Secretary of State. What’s being ignored is the botched decisions (mainly the responsibility of the former President himself) in regards to handling Islamofacist extremism. His legacy on Somalia and especially on North Korea are disturbing, and we all know Hillary was heavily involved in decisions made in her husband’s White House. Does this seem like a good idea?:
ABC News’ Martha Raddatz reports: President-elect Barack Obama met with Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., Thursday in Chicago to discuss the possibility of the senator becoming secretary of state.
A source with knowledge of the transition process describes the meeting as not a hard offer. Obama is more cautious than that.
He is doing this more elegantly, but a source said Obama took a big step toward Hillary. They had a long private meeting in which they talked about their philosophies and what had transpired during the campaign.
Political Radar goes even further to say that the job is “hers to turn down” and Hillary plans on speaking to the President-Elect again. Do we want the Clinton foreign policy legacy as part of the Obama administration? Sure, as Allahpundit points out, she’s better than Kerry or Richardson, but that doesn’t make her a good choice.
If Hillary Clinton accepts this position it shows that she accepts that her decade long quest for the Presidency is well and truly over. Before the wailing and gnashing of teeth begins, it’s not like the current administration has done any better job on North Korea, Iran, and Palestinian terrorism than Clinton did. Arguably Bush/Rice/Powell are worse because for all their brave talk, they have done nothing but twist themselves into pretzels to appease the remaining two thirds of the famous “axis of evil”. This contemptible administration can’t depart quick enough. I can’t believe I ever took them seriously.
